We love this City Paper essay from Center Stage’s Artistic Director, Kwame Kwei-Armah. In it, he calls on Baltimore to have the collective resolution to “embrace being a cultural destination.” We’ve been pretty outspoken about our feelings for our weird little city- from the cool musicians, to the fashion; the inspiring spaces to the laid back entrepreneurs, but it’s always cool to hear it from other creative minds. Especially as Kwame calls us to support each other as our city sits on the peak of launching into something bigger than it is now- a true international arts destination. We’ll never lose our underdog sensibilities, but as the creative minds of Baltimore continue to make and flourish, we’ve got to brace ourselves for what’s next. And according to someone who knows what he’s talking about, what’s next will be pretty spectacular.
